Snacks

We are promoting healthy eating, consistent with what is taught in the provincial curriculum, to establish healthy eating habits for a lifetime. Healthy eating helps children grow, develop, and do well in school.  A healthy diet makes children more settled, attentive and ready to learn.  Poor nutrition is associated with poor learning outcomes.

After sugary snacks I find that students lose focus and eventually energy. Therefore, I am asking that each child bring healthy recess snacks to school. Examples of healthy snacks are:
fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers, yogurt, dry non-sugary cereal.

Check with your child periodically to see if he/she has enough to eat. As children grow, they sometimes get hungrier. Some children seem to need snacks at both small recesses, while others only need a snack at one. Please make sure snacks are ready for eating. For example, oranges are peeled or cut up.  Please provide your own spoons or forks.
